MEDITATION TECHNIQUES

Meditation is a practice which allows an individual to transform their mind. For many people, it is a state of deep peace which helps them overcome problems or realize benefits. It is not easy to master but once a person is able to learn the techniques of meditation, it can help develop concentration and encourage emotional positivity and clarity.

Many things in your lives are beyond your control or things that cannot be changed. But, you are responsible for your own states of mind and you can change them for the better. In Buddhism, meditation is regarded as the only antidote to your personal problems such as fears, anxieties, sorrows and confusions that tend to threaten you.

Meditation can have a transformative effect on human beings and regular meditation practices can help you get into the space where you can find infinite imagination, infinite correlation, infinite possibilities and infinite creativity.

Meditation is a tool to help combat stress and physical pain, foster physical health, feel happier and sleep well and be more peaceful. But, as you go deeper, it can open doors into the unknown and help you get a better understanding of life.

The mind can be unruly when you start meditating. Your mind would be all over the place, but this doesn’t give you a reason to be discouraged. It is natural and therefore will take some time to find clarity and peacefulness.

This article provides ten practical recommendations to help beginners overcome their problems and find inner peace.

  • Establish a regular practice. You must realize the importance of meditating on a daily basis and embrace it emotionally and mentally. Take out time for meditating at least two times each day because you will only see results with repetition.

  • Early morning is the best time to meditate. If you begin your day with a state of silence and peace, your whole day will go better. Therefore, you should get up early in the morning and dedicate at least 15-20 minutes to meditation. Morning is the time when there is less chance of you being disturbed and it is also the time when your mind is not filled with clutter.

  • Start with few stretches. To be comfortable when you meditate, you must stretch your arms, legs and body which allows you to loosen your body.

  • Pay attention to your breathing. Breathe deep as this slows the heart rate, focuses the mind, relaxes the muscles and is the best way to start your practice.

  • Identify your purpose. Meditation is an active process and for a beginner it can be difficult to focus his attention to a single point. Therefore, it is crucial to identify your purpose of meditation and be engaged. If you start getting frustrated, focus on your breathing and your frustrated feelings will go.

  • Experiment. When you meditate, you must be comfortable with your position. Effective meditation is not only sitting with legs crossed. You could sit or even lie down. You can have your eyes open or closed.

  • Pick a room for meditation. Have a separate room for meditation. This room shouldn’t be the one where you exercise, work or sleep. Spiritual paraphernalia such as pictures, paintings, rocks, music and even candles can help you feel at ease.

  • Be committed. Do not expect results every day. Meditation should be a life-long practice and you must give it your best every day.

  • Read books on meditation. To better understand meditation and the benefits of it, read a few books on meditation. This will also help you become motivated. You can even watch instructional videos or listen to CDs and tapes.

  • Ensure peaceful practice conditions. The purpose of meditation is to attain a state of relaxation which may not be possible if you have other things at the back of your mind. For example, if you have your phone with you when you meditate, it may ring or if you have children in the house, they may make noise. Ensuring that your environment is peaceful and will be peaceful throughout your practice is essential.

Meditation can be difficult for beginners, but if you establish a daily habit, you will soon be able to achieve a peaceful state of being.
